
Carrie A. Lee is a senior visiting fellow with the German Marshall Fund of the United States. From 2021 to 2025, she was an associate professor at the U.S. Army War College, where she served as the chair of the Department of National Security and Strategy and director of the USAWC Civil-Military Relations Center. Her award-winning research explores the influence of domestic politics on foreign policy decision-making and civil-military relations. Her writing has appeared in publications such as Foreign Affairs, Texas National Security Review, Journal of Conflict Resolution, War on the Rocks, Armed Forces and Society, International Politics, and the Washington Post, among others. In addition to her work at the Army War College, Carrie is a term member of the Council on Foreign Relations, contributing editor for War on the Rocks, and a fellow with the Truman National Security Project. She received her PhD in political science from Stanford University in 2015, and a BS from MIT in 2010.
