Sivendra Michael
Dr. Sivendra Michael is Fiji’s Permanent Secretary for Environment and Climate Change and a leading Pacific voice in global environmental and climate diplomacy. He serves as Fiji’s Chief Negotiator across major multilateral processes, advancing Pacific priorities in climate action, biodiversity protection, ocean governance, and sustainable development.
He is the Co-Chair of the Strategic Climate Fund Trust Fund Committee for recipient countries, positioning Fiji and the Pacific at the centre of global climate finance decision-making. He has also been appointed to co-facilitate the UNFCCC Ocean and Climate Change Dialogue, reflecting international recognition of his leadership in integrating ocean-based solutions into climate policy.
Dr. Michael serves on several international and regional governing boards and advisory platforms, contributing to high-level policy, finance, and institutional reform across environment and climate portfolios. His leadership is grounded in advancing resilience, equity, and long-term sustainability for Small Island Developing States. He holds a PhD and Master in Economics from the University of Auckland, New Zealand, as well as a dual Masters in Governance and Environmental Law, and a Bachelors in Commerce from the University of the South Pacific.
